Receptors, G Proteins and Integration of Ca<b>2+</b> Signaling in the Cardiovascular System

International DZHK-Symposium, 20th-22nd November 2014

MDC Communications Center, Berlin-Buch, Germany

Organizers: Thomas Gudermann (Munich), Michael Bader (Berlin), Marc Freichel (Heidelberg), Stefan Offermanns (Bad Nauheim)
Local Organizer: Enno Klußmann (MDC)

The scientific aim of this symposium is to bring together the receptor/cyclic nucleotide and calcium signaling communities with an explicit focus on the cardiovascular system. Receptors, G proteins and calcium permeable ion channels are central signaling modules orchestrating cardiovascular functions. In the recent past novel biophysical, genetic and pharmacological approaches have granted deeper insight into single components of complex signaling cascades.

However, the functional interplay of defined signaling modules still remains ill understood. The symposium focuses on the integration of receptor-, G protein-, cyclic nucleotide- and calcium-mediated cellular signals underlying complex cellular functions in the cardiovascular system. The synoptic approach chosen will lead to a deeper mechanistic understanding of physiological regulation and pathologic dysregulation and will highlight novel pharmacological intervention strategies.
