Research areas: interventional cardiology, endothelial function

Tommaso Gori is DZHK Professor for myocardial and vascular interactions at the DZHK partner site Rhine-Main, University Medical Center Mainz.  He is an interventional cardiologist, and performs research in coronary physiology, imaging, and pharmacology.

Research focus

Prof. Gori’s research focuses on three different fields: the first is the study of coronary physiology with a focus on microvascular dysfunction and the mechanisms of myocardial ischemia. The second is the study of coronary anatomy using invasive methods of intravascular imaging. Finally, the third is the study of vascular pharmacology. For these goals, he uses a variety of approaches, ranging from small mechanistic studies to larger clinical trials with clinical endpoints.  His most recent relevant publications investigate the mechanisms of coronary stent thrombosis and ways to prevent it.

Major achievements and awards

  • Caduceo d´Oro (best doctorate of the year 1997)
  • Young Investigators Award, American College of Cardiology 2001
  • Young Investigators Award, American Heart Association 2001
