While systolic dysfunction can be easily identified on echocardiography by using ejection fraction (EF), the diagnosis of diastolic dysfunction requires multiple criteria in echocardiography.

Diagnostic criteria like strain measurements (e.g., by using speckle tracking) may improve the description of diastolic function. Combining strain measurement with other echocardiographic criteria may identify patients with combined systolic and diastolic dysfunction. This project aims to identify a subgroup of NYHA I patients with a combined systolic and diastolic dysfunction on echocardiography and to analyse its association with exercise parameters on spiroergometry. This project will help to understand asymptomatic systolic heart failure better.
