Research areas: molecular cardiology, systems biology, genomics

Tanja Zeller is DZHK Professor for Genomics and Systems Biology at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf since 1 October 2014. Her research focuses on identifying molecular biomarkers in the field of cardiovascular diseases. The research group led by Tanja Zeller combines molecular and cell biological as well as bioinformatics and statistical methods with genetic and clinical epidemiology to develop systems medicine approaches.

Research focus

The research group of Prof. Tanja Zeller conducts so-called OMICS analyses to investigate the relationship between genetic variants, transcripts, proteins, and metabolites with cardiovascular phenotypes. In molecular and cell biological experiments, the function, and role of the genetic variants or the corresponding candidate genes for the cardiovascular system are investigated. Large amounts of data and biomaterial from population-based and disease-based cohort studies are used to enable this research.

Major achievements and awards

  • Award Outstanding Reviewer 2019 for Circulation
  • Speaker Systems Medicine Project Committee since 2016
  • Best Doctoral Thesis, University Gießen
