‘The establishment of the Patient Advisory Board is an important step towards integrating the patients‘ perspective more closely into our research,’ emphasises DZHK Director Prof. Dr Steffen Massberg. ‘The involvement of patients in the Advisory Board is a great enrichment for the DZHK. Their involvement gives us the opportunity to focus our activities even better on the actual needs of those affected.’
Goals and tasks of the Patient Advisory Board
The DZHK Patient Advisory Board is made up of people with different backgrounds and experiences of illness who would like to be actively involved in cardiovascular research. The tasks of the advisory board include
- advising the DZHK on patient communication issues,
- feedback on the patient-friendly design of studies, and
- strengthening patient participation and facilitating access to studies.
A chance to help shape research
Participation in the Patient Advisory Board offers patients and their relatives the opportunity to play an active role in shaping cardiovascular research. Their experiences and perspectives can be directly incorporated into the work of the DZHK in order to make research and care more patient-centred. ‘I would like to thank all members of the Patient Advisory Board for their commitment. Their participation will make a decisive contribution to ensuring that our research is not only scientifically excellent, but also practically relevant,’ emphasised Prof. Massberg at the inaugural meeting.
