‘I am delighted to have been elected spokesperson for the first Patient Advisory Board of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research and would like to express my sincere thanks for the trust shown to me,’ said Dr Neumann on the occasion of the election. ‘It is very important to me to give patients a strong voice in translational research.’

The DZHK Chairman Prof. Dr. Steffen Massberg emphasises the importance of the committee: ‘The Patient Advisory Board brings the perspective of patients more strongly into our research. This gives us the opportunity to tailor our activities even better to the actual needs of those affected.’

The Patient Advisory Board is made up of individuals from diverse backgrounds and with different experiences of illness who are actively involved in cardiovascular research. Its tasks include advising the DZHK on issues relating to patient communication, providing feedback on the patient-friendly design of studies, strengthening patient participation and facilitating access to clinical trials.

The DZHK would like to express its sincere thanks to Dr Neumann, Ruth Biller and Ulrich Janßen for their commitment and looks forward to working with them. Their perspective will bring the needs of patients even closer to the centre of research.
