Philip Wenzel takes over clinic management in Darmstadt - remains a member of the DZHK

Prof. Dr Philip Wenzel, previously Deputy Clinic Director at the Centre for Cardiology at the Mainz University Medical Centre and Principal Investigator at the DZHK, took over as Head of the I. Medical Clinic - Cardiology and Internal Intensive Care Medicine at Darmstadt Hospital on 1 April 2025. There, he will expand cardiological care and strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration.

Medical Director Dr Jörg Noetzel welcomes Prof Dr Philip Wenzel, who moved to Darmstadt Hospital in April.

Prof Wenzel is a specialist in internal medicine, cardiology and internal intensive care medicine with additional qualifications in interventional cardiology and heart failure, among others. His scientific expertise lies in researching vascular inflammatory processes and their role in cardiovascular diseases such as arterial hypertension, myocardial infarction and heart failure. He pays particular attention to the interaction of immune cells, coagulation factors and the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone system. His translational research aims to develop new therapeutic approaches for inflammation-related cardiovascular diseases.

Prof. Wenzel will continue to work at the RheinMain site on a pro rata basis and will therefore remain a member of the German Centre for Cardiovascular Research (DZHK).
