Awards and Grants

Prof. Larissa Fabritz (University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf), Dr med. Martin Beyer (University Heart and Vascular Centre Hamburg), Dr med. Niklas Beyhoff (Deutsches Herzzentrum der Charité (DHZC)), Prof. Constanze Schmidt and Dr med. Felix Wiedmann (University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG)) are receiving funding from the German Heart Foundation, which is supporting research projects on atrial fibrillation with a total of 1 million euros.

Dr Marilena Antoniou (Heidelberg University) is this year's winner of the Segnitz-Ackermann Foundation Abstract Prize.

Dr Nils Krüger (German Heart Centre Munich) is awarded the 2026 August Wilhelm and Lieselotte Becht Research Award, worth €15,000.

Dr. Kami Pekayvaz (LMU Hospital Munich) receives an ERC Starting Grant 2026 for his project ‘Immunothrombolysis: deCoding neutrophiL Engagement in Active thrombus Resolution’ (acronym: I-CLEAR).

Professor Julian Grünewald (Technical University Munich) receives an ERC Starting Grant 2026 for his project ‘From n=1 to many: Scaling-up gene editing for future heart therapies’ (acronym: ONE2MANY).

Dr Nina Sophie Pommert (University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein / Lübeck Campus) has been awarded the Shared Campus Award 2026 together with fellow researchers. The award is presented to research tandems from Lübeck and Kiel and includes one year of seed funding amounting to €10,000.

Prof. Stefanie Dimmeler (University Hospital Frankfurt) was awarded the Cross of Merit, First Class, of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Prof. Sophie Van Linthout (Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin) has joined the Editorial Board of Circulation as Associate Editor for Translational Science, Therapeutics, and Physiology.

Dr. Julian Wagner (Goethe University, Frankfurt am Main) has been awarded the main prize of the 2026 Boehringer Ingelheim Prize, which comes with a project grant of 55,000 euros, for his research into cardiac ageing.

Prof. Stefanie Dimmeler (University Hospital Frankfurt) has been awarded the 2026 Feldberg Foundation Award
