- Prof. Dr. Tanja Zeller and Prof. Dr. Stefan Blankenberg (University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf), together with the University Hospital Zurich, have raised 12.5 million euros from the Kühne Foundation for Germany's largest research project on genome decoding. The aim is to better understand the causes of cardiovascular diseases.
- Prof. Dr. Sonja Schrepfer, University Heart and Vascular Centre of the University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE), has been awarded the Galenus von Pergamon Prize for her stem cell research in the field of transplantation medicine. Dong Wang performed his Medical Doctoral Thesis in the Stem Cell and Immunobiology (TSI) Laboratory (Heisenberg-Group of Prof. Dr. med. Sonja Schrepfer) at the University Heart Center Hamburg (UHZ), and has been selected as a finalist for the award based on his research, entitled, "Local microRNA modulation is feasible: A novel anti-miR-21-eluting stent prevents in-stent restenosis." Wang's work was presented at the American Heart Association's annual meeting in Chicago on November 16th, 2014.

- Prof. Dr. Martin Borggrefe, director of the 1st Medical Clinic and Prof. Dobromir Dobrev, director of the Department of Experimental Cardiology, both at the DZHK partner site Heidelberg / Mannheim, have received the Outstanding Achievement Award by the European Cardiac Arrhythmia Society for their lifetime achievement. Both of them are in a leading position regarding development of new procedures for treatment of arrhythmias.

- Dr. Johannes Backs, Cardiologist at the Heidelberg Medical University Hospital, has been awarded the Klaus-Georg-und-Sigrid-Hengstberger-Forschungsstipendium, worth 50,000 Euro, of the German Cardiac Society for his research in the context of the multifunction protein CaMKll and chronic cardiac insufficiency.
- Dr. Patrick A. Schweizer, Cardiologist at the Heidelberg University Hospital, receives the Woldemar-Mobitz-Forschungspreis 2011, worth 6,000 Euro, of the German Cardiac Society for his research on the emergence of heart rhythm.

- Olympia Bikou and PD Dr. Dierk Thomas, working group on molecular and translational cardiac electrophysiology of Heidelberg Medical University Hospital's department for cardiology, have been awarded the Wolfgang-Trautwein-Forschungspreis 2011, worth 10,000 Euro, for their success in the context of gene therapy and atrial fibrillation. The price will be presented at the annual meeting of the German Cardiac Society in Mannheim (27.-30. April).
